Bedrock Investigation Supports PFAS and 1,4-Dioxane Plume Delineation in Massachusetts
A historic industrial facility in Massachusetts required additional investigation after PFAS became a regulated contaminant, prompting renewed evaluation of a site that had previously received a "No Further Action" determination. The project team needed to investigate the extent of a groundwater plume containing PFAS and 1,4-dioxane while ensuring groundwater samples accurately reflected site conditions and were not influenced by contamination introduced during drilling activities. Cascade was contracted to support plume delineation through bedrock drilling and investigative services
Bedrock Drilling Investigation – Conducted investigative drilling to support delineation of the PFAS and 1,4-dioxane groundwater plume.
PFAS-Free Water Treatment – Designed and deployed a granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment system to remove PFAS from municipal hydrant water used during drilling operations.
Sample Integrity Protection – Implemented field protocols and PFAS-free water handling procedures to minimize cross-contamination risk and maintain confidence in groundwater data.
