Obtaining a quality core sample in improved softer subsurface material poses serious challenges to conventional coring methods. On the Elliot Bay Seawall project this was critical for our client to have the ability to collect good quality core samples within jet-grouted soils.
These core samples would serve as a means to demonstrate both the efficacy of their jet grouting process, as well as ensure the contracted performance criteria were met for payment.
Cascade successfully aided our client though a soft grout coring approach which utilized our Sonic Drilling Technology. With this, Cascade was able to deliver to the client a near 100% continuously recovered sample through using the Sonic Drill in this material. Our client was then able to use this core sample, along with their QA/QC testing procedures, to solve the problem.
