On projects requiring in situ injection remedies, the actual injection is as important as the amendments selected for contaminant destruction. Considering the high cost for amendments and how labor-intensive these projects can be, more attention should be given to the actual injection to ensure it is designed and implemented to perform successfully. In this blog post, I’ll walk you through a pre-mobilization checklist to help you identify data gaps, build a scope of work, manage project logistics, and more.
Why Do I Need a Checklist?
Getting injections right can be high stakes, as decisions made early on about this final step in the remediation process can greatly impact the overall success of the remedy. Unfortunately, many firms that design and implement these projects don’t have sufficient experience on a wide variety of sites to develop an adequate scope of work or to ensure it’s implemented correctly during actual field implementation.
There are a lot of moving parts on an in situ remediation project, and they must be managed effectively. The checklist I’m sharing here is one we’ve developed based on hundreds of projects across the US, and my team uses it regularly.

This template should make it easier to consider every detail when developing scopes of work, selecting injection contractors, and determining what field oversight is needed. By focusing on the injection phase of the remediation, we can expect to set more realistic remediation expectations and achieve them.
