Drilling Site Characterization
The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel spans 18 miles, connecting Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. When it was decided that a parallel bridge-tunnel would be constructed along a portion of the existing structure, Aquifer Drilling & Testing, a Cascade Company (ADT) was asked to conduct over water drilling in the Bay to collect samples.
The project posed challenges, including strong currents, port traffic, and Covid-19 safety. Learn how the crew overcame all of them to get the subsurface data required on schedule.
